Alberta’s Promise Partnership

At Closer to Home, our promise to Alberta’s children and youth is to provide family-centred, strength-based services to ensure that children have healthy and safe living environments in which to grow and develop. And, in some cases, when families are separated, we promise to provide a place for children and youth to call home while offering therapeutic support with the ultimate goal of family reunification.
You may have seen the little Red Wagon on our Supporters page and wondered what it is all about. We display the Red Wagon to demonstrate a proud partnership with Alberta’s Promise, a government initiative dedicated to improving the lives of Alberta’s children and youth by inspiring ideas, actions, and investment between business, agency and community partners.

Together, we are dedicated to improving the lives of young people in this province by giving every opportunity to realize their full potential.

We are also committed to keeping the Five Promises:

    1. A Healthy Start

    1. Caring Adults

    1. Child and Youth Friendly Communities

    1. Lifelong Learning

    1. Opportunities to Contribute

Alberta is the only province in Canada to enshrine a promise to children and youth in legislation, and Alberta’s commitment means far more than being the “right thing to do.” The formation of Alberta’s Promise was announced in the Government’s Throne Speech in 2003.
