Summer in the City is back and IN PERSON! This year’s camp is jam-packed and full of field trips, guest speakers, lunches, and so much more — we are so excited!
After a year of virtual camps, we are happy to announce that we have had generous community partners offer their spaces, from churches to community centres.
Like camps in the past, we have lots of opportunities for kids to learn and interact with our fantastic lineup of guest speakers — and we have some great topics this year. Your kids will learn about gardening, financial literacy, youth savings and more. And, even more incredible — we have double the field trips! Each two-week camp session will experience up to four outings to places like the Calgary Zoo, Heritage Park, TELUS Spark and McCall Lake Golf Course. Wow!
What can the kids expect to learn?
Each year, our campers have opportunities to learn fun, new skills and knowledge that they can take home with them at the end of each day, and throughout their lifetime. With each guest speaker and field trip, the kids will have tips about:
- Sustainable gardening and general garden knowledge
- Teaching Family Model skills like:
- Greetings — how to introduce yourself
- Following instructions
- Asking permission
- Interrupting appropriately
- Social skills (friendship building)
- Arts and crafts
- Songs and dances
We love planning and providing this summer camp, and we know that your kids will love it just as much (or more) than us!
What’s the best thing about camp? Why should you register your kid(s)?
We know that the friends and connections we make have a lasting impact on the lives of the kids we serve, and through Summer in the City, kids will be able to make those lasting friendships.
Your kids will have experiences that they might not have otherwise. Our leaders make sure that all the kids have equal opportunities to learn, play, grow and thrive – during camp and long after.
Summer in the City also makes our staff summers better — we enjoy the camp just as much as the kids!
So, what are you waiting for? Join us for Summer in the City this year!
I just want to thank you for the two weeks of Summer Camp. Our kids had a lot of fun this summer camp, and they would love to come back. Their favourite activities were playing golf, going to Heritage Park, and playing with playdoh and silly putty, but what they liked most about camp were all the friendly kids and coordinators. They made a lot of friends who they still talk to every day. So, I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for sharing this summer camp with us.Parent
Who can join? How long is camp?
- Any child aged 8 to 14 years old can be registered. (Activities will be based on age categories.)
- Camp is two weeks long, and we offer four different camps (Willow, Maple, Cedar and Oak)
- Campers cannot sign up for multiple Summer in the City camps. We want everyone to have an equal opportunity to sign up and participate. **TWO camps are already full!
We would like to extend a special thank you to all of our donors who have made this camp possible! And this year, Brown Bagging For Calgary’s Kids has graciously partnered with us to provide meals for all campers each day — thanks BB4CK!
Finally, thanks to Youth Central volunteers who will provide support to Summer in the City.
