Adopt a Family: FAQ for Families

Closer to Home’s annual Adopt-a-Family initiative supports vulnerable families during the holiday season.

What is Adopt-a-Family?

Every year Closer to Home’s Adopt-a-Family program provides gift cards to over 400 vulnerable families in Calgary, to purchase food, basic necessities and gifts during the holiday season.

Donors are matched with a specific family and donations are used to provide gift cards rather than physical gifts.  This way, adopted families can decide what their particular needs are during this season.

Frequently Asked Questions for Families in Need

Closer to Home is committed to supporting as many families through our Adopt-a-Family initiative as possible. However, our funding and resources are limited, so we may need to focus our support within our catchment area: communities north of 16th Ave and west of Deerfoot Trail to Crowchild Trail.

If you are located outside of these communities, your local Family Resource Network may be able to assist you. Please feel free to call us at (403) 543-0555 and we can connect you with the right place.

Please call us at (403) 543-0555 to speak with our Intake and Assessment Worker.

Families will receive a package of gift cards to complete their own holiday gift and grocery shopping.

Closer to Home’s North Central Family Resource Network has a variety of community-based youth and family programming.
