Beginner Powwow Dance Class

Join The Alex and Closer to Home to learn the basics of powwow dancing, a powerful expression of Indigenous culture, history, and spirituality. This introductory class, led by Indigenous dancer Jackie MistaMaskwa, focuses on accessible, low-impact movements from styles like the Women’s Jingle and Men’s Grass dances.

The workshop goes beyond steps by offering crucial insights into the significance of the dances, the regalia, and the meaning of the drum. All participants will learn proper powwow protocol and etiquette, and will have the opportunity to make their own regalia.
