Closer to Home’s annual Adopt-a-Family initiative supports low-income families who would otherwise be unable to provide their families with a joyful Christmas.
Adopt-a-Family is an easy way to make a meaningful impact on kids and families who need your help.
Sign up by December 4th to shop for Christmas gifts for a family in need! Or, submit a financial donation and our volunteers will shop for a family on your behalf.

How does it work?
Step 1: Review the Gift Value Guidelines
Determine the family size that best suits your budget based on our suggested gift value guidelines. These guidelines help ensure every family benefits equally from this initiative, and no family members are forgotten.
*Please note: A processing fee of $25 is required for each family you support. This helps ensure we can dedicate the necessary resources to give both you and your adopted family a meaningful experience.
Step 2: Submit your registration form or financial donation
Once you have determined the family size you would like to be matched with, submit your donor registration form (if you would like to shop) or your financial donation (if you would like us to shop). Please submit your form by December 4th in order to be matched with a family.
*Please note: All financial donations are eligible for a tax receipt. We are not able to provide tax receipts for in-kind donations of gifts.
Step 3: Receiving your adopted family’s wish list or information
Once you have submitted your registration form or financial donation, we will get to work on matching you up with your preferred family size.* Once you are matched, we will contact you by email with your family’s wish list (if you are shopping) or with other information about your family (if we are shopping).
*Please note: All donors who are shopping for a family should receive their family’s wish list by December 7th or sooner. If you have submitted a financial donation, we will send you the information about the unique family you have been matched with by December 20th or sooner.
Step 4: It’s time to shop!
It’s time to hit the stores! Take your family’s wish list with you when you shop, and be sure to read our gift shopping tips!
If you are shopping, please ensure you complete your shopping and schedule a time to drop off your family’s gifts at Closer to Home (3507A 17 Avenue SW) before December 17th.
Step 5: Gift delivery
Once you have dropped off your gifts at Closer to Home, or our volunteers have completed the shopping on your behalf, our staff will put on their reindeer hats and ensure the gifts are delivered to your adopted family before Christmas Day!

Sponsorships provide Closer to Home with the ability to dedicate the necessary resources towards this important annual initiative, which runs alongside our regular year-round programming.
